DNA translocase activity
Catalysis of the reaction: ATP + H2O = ADP + phosphate, to drive movement along a single- or double-stranded DNA molecule. [ http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16428451 http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17631491 ]
Term info
DNA translocase activity
Note that some gene products that possess DNA translocase activity, such as members of the FtsK/SpoIIIE family, can be fixed in place by interactions with other components of the cell; the relative movement between the protein and DNA bound to it results in movement of the DNA within the cell, often across a membrane.
