It is a pentamer that binds serotonin and is comprised of either five 5-hydroxytryptamine receptor 3A subunits or a combination of four 5-hydroxytryptamine receptor 3A molecules with one of the alternative subunits, 5-hydroxytryptamine receptor 3B, 3C, 3D or 3E.
