ALT DEFINITION

An enzyme found throughout the body's tissues and organs. Several forms of PKC are involved in many cellular functions. PKC is being studied in the treatment of cancer.

DesignNote

There are 3 classes of protein kinase C isozymes based on the molecular requirement for activation. Conventional isozymes need calcium ions, diacylglycerol and phospholipids for activation. Novel isozymes require diacylglycerol and are not regulated by calcium ions, while atypical isozymes require neither diacylglycerol nor calcium ions.
