DesignNote

Encoded by human CDH3 Gene (CDH Family), 829-amino acid 91 kD (precursor) Placental Cadherin is a homophilic Ca(2+)-dependent cell-cell adhesion type I membrane glycoprotein comprised of five extracellular cadherin repeats, a transmembrane region, and a highly conserved cytoplasmic tail. Aberrant expression is observed in cervical adenocarcinomas. Hypotrichosis with juvenile macular dystrophy is caused by production of a truncated protein resulting from a homozygous nucleotide deletion.
