Encoded by human CDH13 Gene (CDH Family), 713-amino acid 78 kD (precursor) putative tumor suppressor Cadherin 13 is a Ca(2+)-dependent cell-cell adhesion glycoprotein composed of five extracellular cadherin repeats. H-Cadherin lacks the conserved cytoplasmic region and is attached to the membrane by a GPI-anchor, unlike typical cadherins. Highest expression is observed in the heart. CNS expression is higher in adult than in fetus. A putative mediator of cell interactions, this cadherin may inhibit neural cell growth.
