In Anolis, This muscle mostly originates via fleshy fibers from the ventrolateral aspect of the ilium and the ventral aspect of the transverse processes of Ca1-8 (note: the origin from Ca1 is tendinous). The fibers of m. ischiocaudalis join those of m. cocygeus inferior in the ventral midline at the level of Ca3-4 (in females) and Ca5-6 (in males)[PMID:22753107]
