- hyomandibular cartilage sensu Schaefer (1990)
Schaefer, S. 1990. (Anatomy and relationships of the scoloplacid catfishes. Proc. Acad. Nat. Sci. Phil. 142: 167-210) described this structure in certain catfishes and applied the name hyomandibular cartilage. To avoid possible confusion of this structure with the hyomandibular cartilage (or bone) of the suspensorium, the term mandibular-hyoid median cartilage is used here.
