In salamanders (Caudata) the m. rectus abdominis profundus is sometimes continuous with the m. rectus cervicis profundus. In extreme cases (family Plethodontidae) represents an undivided muscle that arises from the psoterior border of the ischium that proceds uninterrupted to the tongue pad.
